"What if you could walk into a Walt Disney Worldpark, open your resort room, get into the FastPass line and even pay for a meal, all without reaching into your pocket for any tickets or cash?
Monday, Disney Parks Blog showed off a sneak peek of a way guests will be able to do all that, all with just one device.
It's called the MagicBand: A wristband designed to act as your park ticket, room key, PhotoPass card and FastPass. It could even be used as a payment account.
Earlier pictures of the MagicBand appeared on the Federal Communications Commission's website in October, when Disney filed an application for the wristband, said to use radio-frequency technology.
The Orlando Business Journal reported the devices were being designed by Synapse Product Development, a Seattle-based product engineering firm.
The Business Journal also noted the MagicBand could even be used by Disney to track how many guests are at each of its parks and place staff or even merchandise at certain areas seeing the most traffic.
Disney said the MagicBand is just one of a set of tools it plans to roll out over the next several months, collectively called "MyMagic Plus."
With MyMagic Plus, Disney said guests will be able to schedule times for rides and other attractions before they even get to the theme park.
One aspect of My Magic Plus that's available now is the My Disney Experience mobile app for Apple iOS andAndroid devices. With this app, you have theme park maps, wait times for attractions and daily schedules at your fingertips. You can even book dining and other reservations, all through the app, wherever you are in or out of the parks.
Walt Disney World has already begun testing some aspects of MyMagic Plus, and said early feedback from guests who have tried out the new services has been positive." 13 News Orlando Florida
