Are you, your spouse, or traveling buddy a Disney veteran? Do you know everything there is to know about Walt Disney World? I recently had the opportunity to experience a tour that is perfect for you!
The Backstage Magic Tour operated by Adventures by Disney is the perfect Disney experience for those hardcore Disney lovers. This seven hour tour allows guests an up-close look at the backstage elements of their favorite Disney parks. Have you ever wondered how Ben Franklin climbs the stairs in The American Adventure? On this tour you can see exactly how Imagineers made that happen.
Next we were whisked off in our motor coach to Creative Costuming! This is were the costumes for many of the parks cast members are deigned and made. We witnessed cast members sewing some of the many costumes for new attractions as well as costumes that have been preserved from retired rides and parades. Anyone remember SpectroMagic?
After Creative Costuming our next stop was Textile Services. Can you guess what happens here? ALL the laundry for Walt Disney World. We learned about the number one “lost item found when sorting through all those sheets. Can you guess what that item is?
Then we were treated to lunch at Whispering Canyon Cafe. Here we enjoyed a family-style meal as well as their world famous berry cobbler! If you ask nicely they may just give you the secret to their cobbler.
Central Shops was the next stop. This is where Imagineering builds and maintains props, ride vehicles, etc. While in Central Shops we had the opportunity to see ride vehicles from Expedition Everest, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel’s horses, and even a giraffe from the World Famous Jungle Cruise! We learned the story behind the paint colors for Disney Cruise Line and even had the opportunity to see the blue prints for many famous rides (Body Wars anyone?)!
Our last stop was the Magic Kingdom where we had the opportunity to visit the Utilidors! The Utilidor is the ground level for the Magic Kingdom and is approximately 1.5 miles of tunnels allowing Cast Members to move seamlessly around the lands of the park. This experience alone might be worth the cost of admission for most guests. This is one part of the tour that I don’t want to spoil!
